The Film Office-Central Macedonia made its first official appearance at the film market (Industria) of the 73rd San Sebastián International Film Festival in Spain (September 19–27, 2025), led by the Vice Governor for Tourism, Mrs Vicky Chatzivasileiou.
Following last year’s participation of the Region of Central Macedonia in the “Shooting Locations Marketplace 2024” in Spain – the only destination from Greece represented in this particular market– the Film Office continues to boost the international outreach of Central Macedonia as a competitive film destination. It also promotes the region to Spanish-speaking audiovisual markets both within and beyond Europe.
“At its first participation in the film market of the San Sebastián International Film Festival, Central Macedonia was officially invited to a networking event with countries from Europe and Latin America, organized by Basque Audiovisual – the audiovisual organization for the promotion and support of productions in the Basque Country, Spain. At one of Europe’s most important film events, we had the opportunity to meet, among others, with Ruth Aristondo, Head of Film Basque Country, part of Basque Audiovisual, and learn how the Basque Country supports and promotes its audiovisual sector in a multifaceted way. We saw how cinema becomes a bridge for cooperation between all cultural and creative industries in the region – from film and fine arts to gastronomy and tourism,” stated Mrs Vicky Chatzivasileiou, Vice Governor for Tourism.
During its presence at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, the Film Office-Central Macedonia held networking meetings with other Film Commissions, professionals, audiovisual bodies, and organizations from Europe and Latin America. Of particular interest were the festival’s initiatives in the fields of innovation and new film technologies, aimed at startups operating in the audiovisual sector.
