Focused on the implementation of sustainability practices in audiovisual production, the third and final in-person workshop of the European project Green SCAP (Green Skills for Cinema and Audiovisual Production) took place in Mallorca, Spain, from 24 to 26 July 2026. The Film Office Central Macedonia actively participated in the three-day workshop as a project partner, contributing to the training activities aimed at shaping new “green” standards for the European audiovisual industry.

The third Green SCAP in-person workshop, entitled “Sustainability in audiovisual production: From design to real implementation“, focused on tools and practices that support sustainable production strategies and help reduce the environmental footprint of film and audiovisual productions.

Special emphasis was placed on filming in protected areas and locations of exceptional natural beauty, a topic on which the partners presented new tools, methodologies and best practices. In this context, the Film Office Central Macedonia presented as a regional best practice the innovative decentralized workshop on sustainable filmmaking entitled “Filming in nature, filming (in) green”, which was organized by the Region of Central Macedonia in the autumn of 2025 in Kilkis, Pella and Serres.

“In the era of climate crisis, sustainability is a key priority for the Region of Central Macedonia and an integral part of our policy for the development of the audiovisual sector in our region. Through Green SCAP, we are joining forces with our European partners to enhance the knowledge and skills of audiovisual professionals in practices that reduce the environmental footprint of productions.

The recognition of the decentralized initiative we implemented in Kilkis, Pella and Serres as a best practice confirms the growing role of the Region of Central Macedonia as a destination that supports sustainable filmmaking. The next important milestone will be the presentation of Green SCAP’s results at the Venice International Film Festival this September, where we will also showcase the positive impact of the Green SCAP workshop on sustainable filmmaking that we organized in Thessaloniki this spring, in cooperation with EKKOMED and with the support of the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival’s Agora,” stated the Regional Governor for Tourism, Mrs Vicky Hadjivasileiou.

The 3rd Green SCAP workshop in Mallorca also featured case studies from internationally acclaimed film and television productions that successfully integrated sustainability practices into their operations. At the same time, the twelve trainees from Greece, Italy and Spain presented their own proposals for new tools and practices that could further strengthen sustainability in audiovisual production.

The workshop, organized by Power House Hub of Mallorca on behalf of the Spanish partnership, was led by Paloma Andrés Urrutia, sustainability manager, co-founder of Mrs Greenfilm, and member of Fiction Changing the World, an initiative promoting sustainable filmmaking practices.

The third in-person Green SCAP workshop was held within the framework of the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest (24 July – 2 August 2026). The festival’s director, Jaume Ripoll, welcomed the organizers and participants to the festival’s activities, highlighting its role as an important meeting point for audiovisual professionals from across Europe.

The Green SCAP project will conclude in Italy in September 2026, where the lead partner, Veneto Film Commission, will host a final event presenting the project’s results during the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, with the participation of all project partners and trainees.

Particularly significant is the fact that the concluding Green SCAP event will coincide with the tribute to Greece as the Country of Focus at the upcoming Venice International Film Festival.

Green SCAP is implemented within the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme and is co-funded by the European Union. The project is led by Veneto Film Commission (Italy), in cooperation with Film Office Central Macedonia, the Hellenic Film Commission of EKKOMED, and Power House Hub of Mallorca (Spain), under the scientific supervision of the European network Green Film.

In Central Macedonia, the Green SCAP project is implemented through the collaboration of Film Office Central Macedonia, the Directorate of Tourism, and the Department of European Programmes and Cooperation of the Independent Directorate for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Support of the Region of Central Macedonia.
