Thessaloniki will host the second on site workshop of the European project Green SCAP (Green Skills for Cinema and Audiovisual Production), which will take place from March 9 to March 11, 2026, at the New Conference Center of the Region of Central Macedonia (64, 26th Oktovriou Street). The program is implemented within the framework of Erasmus+ and aims to develop “green” skills for professionals in the audiovisual industry across Europe.
In Greece, the workshop is co-organized by the Film Office Central Macedonia and the Hellenic Film Commission/Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center, actively contributing to the training of professionals in shaping new sustainable standards in film and audiovisual production. The organizational baton passes from Italy, where the first workshop was held, to Greece.
The second Green SCAP onsite workshop, supported by the Agora of the 28th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, marks a key milestone in the implementation of the project. It will focus on connecting Greek professionals with the contemporary challenges of sustainable filmmaking and best green production practices.
Through applied exercises and experiential training, 12 selected professionals from Greece, Italy, and Spain will collaborate to create sustainable audiovisual projects, analyzing every stage of the production process — from pre-production to the completion of filming — through the lens of environmental responsibility.
Agora Talk on Sustainability: From Vision to Reality
On the occasion of the workshop, an informative event will be held within the Agora Talks section, titled:
“From vision to reality: Unleashing the sustainability superpower in film production.”
The event will take place on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 (17:00–18:00), at the Thessaloniki Municipal Music Center (17, Kountouriotou Street), as part of the Agora of the 28th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival. It will be conducted in English and is addressed exclusively to accredited Agora professionals.
The thematic focus of the discussion is the collaboration between the film producer and the sustainability manager on set, highlighting the role of environmental strategy as both a creative and production tool.
Trainers at the 2nd Green SCAP workshop and speakers/moderators at the Agora Talk are:
- Julia Tordai, sustainability consultant, founder and CEO of Green Eyes Productions
- Serena Alfieri, film producer
- Linnea Merzagora, coordinator of the European Green Film network / Trentino Film Commission
Distinguished Greek audiovisual professionals will participate in the 2nd Green SCAP workshop in Thessaloniki as guest trainers:
- Danae Spathara(Heretic), film producer
- Giannis Sotiropoulos(LocationHound), location manager
- Panagiotis Salapatas, director of photography, professor at the Department of Film of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and member of the Greek Society of Cinematographers
The newly established Greek Society of Location and Unit Department also collaborates in the Thessaloniki action.
European synergies for sustainability
On the occasion of Green SCAP, a networking event will take place in Thessaloniki between two European projects in the field of sustainability implemented by the Region of Central Macedonia:
- Green SCAP (Green Skills for Cinema & Audiovisual Productions, Erasmus+)
- MINEV (Waste Management in Large Events, Interreg Europe)
The networking event will be hosted on Wednesday, March 10, 2026, at 20:00, at the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography, aiming to foster acquaintance, networking, and exchange of practices among the partners of the two projects, strengthening interregional dialogue and cooperation for the green transition.
The Green SCAP program is implemented within the framework of Erasmus+ and co-funded by the European Union. The lead partner is the Veneto Film Commission (Italy), in collaboration with the Film Office-Central Macedonia (Greece), the Hellenic Film Commission of the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center (Greece), and the Mediterranean Creative Hub of Mallorca (Spain), under the scientific supervision of the European Green Film network.
In Central Macedonia, the European project GREEN SCAP is implemented with the cooperation of the Film Office Central Macedonia, the Directorate of Tourism, and the Department of European Programs and Synergies of the Directorate for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Support of the Region of Central Macedonia.
