European Film Market 2026: Film Office-Central Macedonia expands its European network and strategic agenda

With an enriched agenda, strategic contacts for new European partnerships, and active participation in briefing and networking events, Film Office Central Macedonia completed its third consecutive participation in the European Film Market (February 12-18, 2026), within the framework of the 76th Berlin International Film Festival.

At the first major international film market of the year, the Film Office team joined forces with the Greek film team in Berlin and conducted significant professional meetings with film organizations, Greek and international producers and companies, as well as national and regional film commissions from across Europe, strengthening existing collaborations and exploring new prospects for synergies.

Focus on sustainability and female empowerment

This year’s presence of Film Office Central Macedonia in Berlin, at one of Europe’s largest and most significant film markets, the European Film Market, coincides with the implementation of our Region’s first European program dedicated exclusively to the audiovisual sector,” stated Mrs Vicky Chatzivassileiou, Vice Governor of Tourism.

“The European project Green SCAP, focused on sustainability in audiovisual productions, which will be hosted next month in Thessaloniki, bolsters the recognition and the multiple possibilities of our region as a film-friendly and sustainable destination. Simultaneously, through networking with major European film organizations, we are creating new prospects for education, training, and the exchange of expertise.”

She further highlighted the tangible results of this outreach: “We are particularly satisfied because our presence in Berlin is bringing results: Following Green SCAP, we are preparing a second, new proposal for a European training program for women in cinema, in collaboration with important European partners. At the same time, we are strengthening Central Macedonia’s presence in the actions of major film organizations (EUFCN, European Producers Club, European Women’s Audiovisual Network), aiming to leverage new opportunities and dynamically position our region on the international audiovisual map. We continue systematically and methodically, seeking a strong developmental footprint also in the field of film tourism.

  • Fifteen B2B meetings with producer-members of the European Producers Club, within the framework of the European Film Commissions Network (EUFCN) activities at the Berlinale.
  • Participation of the Film Office in the EUFCN General Assembly and individual networking meetings with Film Commissions from all over Europe.
  • Attendance at the award ceremony for the best European location of the year (EUFCN Location Award 2025).
  • Participation of the Film Office in the joint networking event of Italy, Spain, and Portugal, co-organized in Berlin by the organizations Italian Film Commissions, Spain Film Commission, and Portugal Film Commission.
  • Participation of the Film Office in the established reception for the promotion of Greek cinema, held at the Greek Embassy in Berlin, in the presence of the Ambassador of Greece to Germany, Alexandros Papaioannou. The event was co-organized by the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center (EKKOMED) and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival.

The event provided a significant opportunity for the networking of creators from Greece in Europe’s leading film market, for the development of new projects and films, for finding co-productions, funding, and new partnerships, as well as for highlighting Greece as a filming location for international productions. The reception also marked the official start of the countdown to the European Film Academy Awards ceremony, which will be held in 2027 in Athens, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC).
