The Film Office -Central Macedonia actively participated in the 2nd International Scientific Conference on Audiovisual and Film Literacy in Chania

The Film Office -Central Macedonia actively participated in the 2nd International Scientific Conference on Audiovisual and Film Literacy: Viewing-Critical Approach-Creation (March 27-29, 2026), held in Chania by the Chania Film Festival and the Cultural Society of Crete.

Focusing on Artificial Intelligence and its relationship with cinema, the conference served as a meeting point for scientists, researchers, educators, creators, academic institutions, and audiovisual organizations. The event featured three keynote speeches, 95 presentations by 148 speakers, and 9 experiential workshops. The conference was held under the auspices of the Hellenic Parliament, the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, and the General Secretariat for Communication and Information. Key collaborators included Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center (EKOMED), the Creative Europe-MEDIA Office, and numerous research and academic institutions.

The Green SCAP Project

During the conference, the Film Office-Central Macedonia highlighted the methodology and initial results of the European project Green SCAP (Erasmus+). This strategic partnership between Greece, Italy, and Spain is being implemented throughout 2026, aiming to transition the audiovisual sector toward a new, sustainable paradigm of filmmaking. As emphasized during the presentation, the project approaches cinema as an ecosystem of practices, relationships, and material processes, where sustainability is an inherent creative principle rather than an external constraint.

Our participation in this conference demonstrates that the Region of Central Macedonia is investing in a new model of audiovisual development, where sustainability is an integral part of the creative process,” stated the Vice Governor for Tourism, Vicky Hatzivassiliou. “Our goal is to cultivate the conditions for a comprehensive, sustainable regional ecosystem in Central Macedonia, aligning with national strategy to contribute to a future where culture and the environment coexist creatively.”

Eco-Cinema Literacy

In the presentation delivered by the Head of Film Office-Central Macedonia Angeliki Mylonaki, particular emphasis was placed on eco-cinema literacy. This emerging pedagogical and values-based approach encourages the connection of filmmaking with environmental and social responsibility. Additionally, the role of the Region of Central Macedonia as an active institutional partner in promoting a sustainable culture within audiovisual production was highlighted.

The project’s identity

The European project Green SCAP is implemented under the Erasmus+ program with funding from the European Union. The lead partner is the Veneto Film Commission (Italy), in collaboration with the Film Office of Central Macedonia, the Hellenic Film Commission of the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center (EKOMED), and the Creative Hub of Mallorca (Spain), under the scientific supervision of the European network Green Film.

In Central Macedonia, GREEN SCAP is implemented through the cooperation of the Film Office, the Directorate of Tourism, and the Department of European Programs and Synergies of the Independent Directorate for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Support of the Region of Central Macedonia.
