A conference titled “Cinema, Environment and Culture: The Green Perspective for Sustainable Local Development in the Region of Central Macedonia” was held at the Research Dissemination Center (KEDEA) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh).
The event, organized with the scientific support of AUTh and the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program in Tourism and Local Development, attracted numerous academics, students, and professionals from the fields of tourism and audiovisual production.
Kostas Gioutikas, Deputy Regional Governor of Thessaloniki, Thanos Begkas, President of the Development Agency of the Region of Central Macedonia, and Charalampos Feidas, Rector of AUTh, delivered opening remarks.
On behalf of the Film Office of the Region of Central Macedonia, Dionysia Arvanitou spoke about sustainable practices in audiovisual productions, while Zacharoula Andreopoulou, representing AUTh, referred to “the green role of education in tourism.”
The first session, titled “Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy”, featured presentations from AUTh professors from various departments on topics such as cultural routes, participatory rural planning, sports tourism, and gastronomy as a cultural narrative.
The second session, “Environment, Religion and Sustainable Tourism,” focused on natural and religious routes in Central Macedonia, protected areas, forest tourism, and the importance of bioclimatic interventions in urban environments.
The conference highlighted the strong potential that emerges from the synergy between culture, environment, and audiovisual media in promoting sustainable tourism and local development.
