The Film Office of the Region of Central Macedonia at the European Film Market of the Berlin International Film Festival
For the second consecutive year, the Film Office of the Region of Central Macedonia participated in the European Film Market, the film industry market of the Berlin International Film Festival, the renowned “Berlinale” (February 13-23, 2025), which celebrated its 75th anniversary this year.
During its presence at the European Film Market, the Film Office team joined forces with the Greek film delegation in Berlin and held significant professional meetings with film organizations and institutions, Greek and international producers and companies, as well as regional film commissions from Europe with which it has established a network.
The focus was on education and training initiatives for audiovisual professionals through new collaborations with major film organizations such as the Torino Film Lab, the European Green Film Network, and the European Audiovisual Women’s Network (EWA). These collaborations aim to promote sustainable filmmaking, showcase filming locations, encourage emerging creators, and more.
“The participation of the Region of Central Macedonia for the second consecutive year at the European Film Market in Berlin was particularly successful, as it confirms the significant work we have done in establishing European collaborations to promote our region as a competitive filming destination.
We are thrilled about another new collaboration achieved with the support of the Hellenic Film Commission of EKOME-Creative Greece. A project for training local professionals in ‘green’, sustainable filmmaking was approved for funding through the European Erasmus+ program, in collaboration with the Film Commissions of Venice and Mallorca. The program’s activities are expected to begin in September 2025 in Italy (Veneto) and will continue in 2026 in the other two collaborating regions.
This is the first training project for professionals in sustainable filming practices (green filming) that we are implementing in the Region of Central Macedonia. Moreover, this initiative is among the top three proposals approved under Erasmus+ and was ranked at the top out of 140 projects from across Europe, of which only 20 were approved for funding. It is a promising start for the new year, paving the way for even greater success,” said the Deputy Governor for Tourism, Vicky Chatzivassiliou. She highlighted the significant networking achieved by the Film Office in Berlin, aiming to attract new European initiatives to support the local audiovisual industry in Central Macedonia.
More than 10,000 representatives of the international film and creative industries (producers, directors, actors, film organization representatives, distributors, etc.) gathered this year at the European Film Market (February 13-19, 2025), one of the largest film markets in the world. Notably, the European Film Market is considered a highly influential film event as it is the first major film market of the year, setting the tone and direction for the upcoming film season. New productions, emerging talents, sustainable film projects, and significant contacts and partnerships – all begin in Berlin.
